macbook air sold!!!

so i let the macbook air go yesterday... 950 at a lowly burger king in NE portland, the buyer layed out the cash on the table counting it as people looked at us weird. so why did i do it? a few reasons.

1. MS access, and database management software is native to windows OS. I did parallels, boot camp, didn't quite like the feel of it. The air was snappy and performed well on many tasks, the OS is def. superior to windows xp, vista(of course!). but in the end, i need xp flexibility and sadly most dbms programs are windows native.
2. viewing angle. my old x60's screen can be moved 180 degrees, not the air. i'd say about 50-55, i was afraid to break the hinges
3. felt a bit delicate. dont get me wrong, the air is beautifully designed, appealing to the eye. BACKLIT KEYBOARD!!! but i lug this thing around to school, work, kitchen, etc... lenovos are known for ruggedness.
4. battery. on MY normal use i'd get 3.2 hours, which is good. but i dont really want to be worrying about battery status when taking notes on a 4 hour lecture. x300 will give me 7-8 hours with the battery setup i purchased.
5. Hard drive. 80 gb 4200 rpm didn't cut it for me. YES, the air's HD performed very well on all my tasks. not too much lag when opening applications. word 2008, parallels, web, email. BUT... x300 comes with a 64GB samsung SSD. can't beat that. since im throwing the laptop in my bag as soon as class is over and making a run for it, air's HDD is still winding down the platters from spinning. that's a good probability for HDD failure. i dont have to worry about that with an SSD drive (no moving parts).

So in the end i ENJOYED my mac experiece and will def be buying one in the future. but for my needs x300 fits right now. Farewell to the air... hopefully our paths cross again.
